Jim and Beth (Caldwell) Barr

Beth and I press on with our lives here in Portsmouth, Virginia. Beth lives her Romans 12:1 life by homeschooling our kids. The younger five are still at home, with two older in college. The oldest, Abby, is a graduating (hopefully!) senior at Grove City (Beth’s alma mater) and went to Jubilee this year. Our oldest son, Adam, is a junior at Virginia Military Institute (VMI). Joel is 17 and a graduating high school senior, accepted at nearby Old Dominion University, but waiting for word from Virginia Tech. All three older ones have been involved in mission (Peru, India, and Romania, with Adam doing some post-Katrina work with college friends). Adam is a few signatures away from receiving a commission in the US Air Force.

The younger five kids keep us busy (we are now doing the oft-cited “hatching chick from eggs” and we have kids involved in piano, violin, youth orchestra, horse-riding lessons, baby-sitting, volleyball, softball and soccer.

Our church (PCA) has been a great blessing, giving us rich expository preaching and friends who encourage living out our faith. Our family has been involved in reaching out to the community in several ways (just this week, we took part in an outreach to the homeless in a Union Mission ministry downtown).

I work for BibleWorks — the premier software tool for original language exegesis of the Biblical text. I travel a bit, visiting seminaries across the nation to show them what BibleWorks can do — that is always fun. Seeing how it helps folks really dig into God’s Word is always an encouragement.

Anyone who comes to southeast Virginia is welcome to stay with us. We all enjoy offering hospitality — and our big kitchen table has room for a few more plates.
