More than 50 Duquesne University students involved in the student-run (and CCO-advised) Crossroads Christian Fellowship group were recently treated to a free picnic by the university in honor of their distinction of being given the Outstanding Organization for Community Service Award. Whether passing out chocolate-covered pretzels to thank the university’s janitorial staff or traveling to New Orleans over spring break to clean out and rebuild houses damaged by Hurricane Katrina, these students have set an example of sacrificial service to their peers.
Members of Crossroads who attended the Jubilee conference signed up to sponsor a needy child through Compassion International. Students have also been writing letters to deployed soldiers, collecting aluminum can tabs to help raise money for seeing-eye dogs (Tabs for Labs), and volunteering with inner-city children through after-school programs at Allegheny Center Alliance Church and Covenant Fellowship Reformed Presbyterian Church. They also partnered with the Knights of Columbus to compile stockings for children who would otherwise not receive Christmas gifts.
Congratulations to Crossroads Christian Fellowship for this well-deserved recognition!
