CCO staff head off to Canadian wilderness

(Pittsburgh) June 3, 2008—On Wednesday, June 4, eight students and four CCO (Coalition for Christian Outreach) instructors will depart from Pittsburgh for a month-long coastal kayaking trip in Ontario, Canada.

Each summer, the CCO sponsors outdoor adventure activities with a purpose: to develop practical leadership skills and to build character. To that end, the CCO is sponsoring the Leadership in the Wilderness (LDW) Canada.

LDW Canada students head north, leaving behind their cell phones, laptops and DVD players. Participants in the kayaking trip will spend four and a half weeks in the Georgian Bay of Ontario, Canada. The trip will culminate with a high-altitude mountaineering experience. Activities include sea kayaking, outdoor living skills, scripture study, first aid training, orienteering and navigation, solo experience, swimming, and journaling.

“LDW Canada is designed to create a space for students to learn about wisdom and leadership as they transition from college into the work world,” says Joy Guilleux, Director of supervision for the CCO’s Outdoor Leadership Team.

CCO staff members Francois Guilleux, Charity Haubrich, Sean Purcell, and Kelly Royer are serving as instructors for LDW Canada.

The CCO is a campus ministry organization which partners with churches, colleges and organizations to develop men and women who live out their Christian faith in every area of life.
