(Pittsburgh) August 1, 2008 — Mark Steffey has joined the CCO (Coalition for Christian Outreach) to reach out to student athletes at the University of Pittsburgh. Mark is coming on board in August to replace Ron Coder, who is moving onto a position with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
Mark grew up in the Pittsburgh suburb of Penn Hills, and he attended Ohio Wesleyan University, where he met his wife Kristin, an All-American soccer player at OWU. He graduated from OWU in 1996 and has spent the last 12 years working with youth, first as the youth pastor at St. Stephen’s Church in Sewickley, and more recently with Urban Impact on the North Side, and the Pittsburgh Youth Network. Mark is completing a Master of Arts in Global Leadership this summer through Fuller Theological Seminary.
Mark grew up playing sports, focusing on baseball, soccer, and basketball. Only his slight build (graduated high school at a whopping 115 pounds!) prevented him from professional superstardom. Today, Mark stays active by chasing his three kids around: Hannah (8), Haley (6), and Braedan (3).
Mark has strong ties to the University of Pittsburgh. His grandfather, mother and brother are all Pitt alumni, and his wife also received her Masters of Arts in Exercise Science from Pitt. Mark is excited to come alongside college athletes to help transform them into young men and women who transform the world. He is also excited to work alongside his CCO colleague Kelly Crowell in her ministry to female athletes at Pitt.
The CCO is a campus ministry organization which partners with churches, colleges and organizations to develop men and women who live out their Christian faith in every area of life. The CCO’s core purpose is “transforming college students to transform the world.”
