Three Pittsburgh organizations recognized as Best Christian Places to Work

(Pittsburgh) February 25, 2009 — The Best Christian Workplaces Institute (BCWI) announced that three Pittsburgh-based organizations, the Coalition for Christian Outreach (CCO), Light of Life Ministries, Inc. and The Pittsburgh Project, are included in the 2009 list of certified Best Christian Workplaces in the US. This is the seventh year in a row that the CCO has been singled out as one of the Best Christian Places to Work.

The CCO is a campus ministry that partners with churches, colleges and other organizations to develop men and women who live out their Christian faith in every area of life. The CCO employs 226 people across 83 college campuses as well as its headquarters in East Liberty.

“The CCO has been blessed through our whole existence with outstanding people,” commented President Dan Dupee. “I can’t tell you how many times a leader from another organization—usually a business that can afford to pay 50% more than us—has met one of our people and is surprised by how sharp they are.

“All of us who lead know that the very best people always have options to do things other than work for us. Some of those things are quite lucrative, even in a bad economy. The CCO can’t do its mission without exceptional people, so attracting and retaining the best folks out there is our highest priority.

“Winning this award doesn’t mean we have our act thoroughly together. We have problems and deficiencies just as all organizations do. But it does mean we are on the right track. We’re honored to receive this recognition.”
The other two Pittsburgh organizations recognized are also doing good work in our community.

Light of Life Ministries focuses on reaching out to the homeless of Pittsburgh, and The Pittsburgh Project is a nonprofit community development organization.

The 2009 survey involved more than 11,000 employees in 113 organizations across the US to identify great workplaces with a Christian mission and/or values.

Staff from each organization filled out a lengthy online survey in the fall of 2008, which covers such issues as job satisfaction, organizational commitment, Christian witness, personal growth and development, management effectiveness, communications, and pay and benefits.
