Why Indiana?

This article first appeared in the summer 2009 issue of On Campus magazine.

The CCO is on the brink of expanding our ministry presence into the state of Indiana. We are going to Indiana because the need there is great, and because God has opened a door for us to meet that need.

Indiana has 350,000 students attending 39 colleges and universities. Many of these schools have multiple branch campuses with no ministry presence at all. Indiana is the home to well-known universities like Purdue, Indiana, Notre Dame and Ball State. Even with other ministries on campus, only a fraction of students on Indiana campuses are being reached.

Few of the ministries currently on Indiana campuses partner with local churches. We are eager to reach the thousands of unreached students in Indiana and to connect them to local congregations. We are also excited about reaching out to the thousands of commuter students in Indiana. We have developed expertise over the years in reaching commuter students and developing them as Christian leaders; we would like to bring that expertise to Indiana.

Eight years ago, the CCO had no ministry presence in Philadelphia, and opportunities to develop student leaders were being wasted. Today, we have 14 thriving ministries there. We want to do the same in Indiana, and thanks to Rod Schoon, we can.
