I know of few former students of the CCO’s ministry who give the CCO such enthusiastic and generous praise for preparing them to approach work, marriage, parenting, and life in general to God’s glory as do Randy and Lynda Hultman. Randy is Customer Care Team Leader for the Delaware Department of Technology and Information. Lynda is a Family Emergency Relief Ministry Caseworker for Wyoming United Methodist Church. Randy and Lynda have two children, and they are active members of Wyoming United Methodist Church in Wyoming, Delaware. As you read the following, you’ll see how two young people at Indiana University of Pennsylvania were forever transformed by CCO staff workers. —Robert R. Long, Chairman of the Board
Why do you feel so strongly about ministry to college-aged young people?
First and foremost, we believe in the importance of college ministry because that is where our faith came to maturity. We had both embraced Christ before arriving at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1970, although we hadn’t met yet. But now we were exposing that faith to the rigors of a secular college campus. We were keenly aware of the intense conflict in values and priorities between the collegiate culture and how we had been raised. In another setting, sorting through the conflict might not have been so hard, but we were in the “perfect storm” for a college freshmen.
By God’s grace, a fledgling organization called the Coalition for Christian Outreach was embarking on its own adventure and chose IUP as one of its first three campuses for its ministry. Rather than wandering aimlessly in our faith, we found ourselves in the company of Christian leaders with a vision for college ministry and a call to radical Christian commitment. And what a difference it made!
Why did you choose to include the CCO in your estate plans?
From the time we graduated, we have invested in the Coalition for Christian Outreach. We use the term “invested” intentionally, especially during these turbulent economic times. Investments are expected to increase in value, to generate a return. We believe with the eyes of faith that our investment is bearing fruit. And when we can, we enjoy coming to Jubilee to see it in person.
We will continue to invest in the CCO for as long as God gives us breath—and beyond. Our estate plan includes a gift to the planned giving program that we hope, and trust, will enable CCO staff to continue to impact college men and women with the radical life-giving and life-challenging message of Jesus Christ.
If you have any questions regarding the CCO’s ministry, or if you would be interested in considering a deferred gift, please contact our Chairman of the Board, Robert R. Long, at 412.363.3303.
