Why Bill and Linda Roemer give to the CCO

This article first appeared in the fall 2008 issue of On Campus magazine.

Bill and Linda Roemer are enthusiastic supporters and friends of the CCO. Bill has actively served on the Board of Directors for 18 years. He is also on the Executive and Investment Committees.

With Bill’s enormous business experience as a retired CEO of a major bank, his advice and counsel have been invaluable to the CCO. When Bill is on a board, the organization is, without question, going to receive his time, energy, knowledgeable input, and generous financial support.

When Bill offers a critique, the person always sees and feels the criticism as supportive and helpful. Bill has a wonderful way of being candid in an evaluation, but people don’t get defensive. They are grateful. What a gift!
—Robert R. Long, Chairman of the Board

Why do you feel so strongly about ministry to college-aged young people?
The college years are the most formative, and I think that the earlier you can bring somebody into a relationship with the Lord, the better their life will be. I can only say that when I was in college, no one was talking to me about Christ. I wish they had been.

The college and high school years are a period of time when people form beliefs and habits that will influence how they are going to live the rest of their lives. A lot of that will be influenced by what students learn on campus. It’s important to have people there who care enough to help them sift through the many messages they are receiving.

Why did you choose to include the CCO in your estate plans?
I have been a CCO Board member for 18 years now, and I have seen the organization grow and prosper. I have seen it impact and influence people in a very positive and spiritual way, and its mission of transforming college students to transform the world is something that I feel is worthy of support, even when we’re no longer able to write the checks. It’s one of a just a few organizations that we feel that strongly about.

When you cut right to the chase, you can’t take it with you! Rather than let the government take a bigger chunk, Linda and I would like to see the organizations that we care deeply about get something when we are no longer able to render our own financial support. We care deeply about the CCO!

If you have any questions regarding the CCO’s ministry, or if you would be interested in considering a deferred gift, please contact our Chairman of the Board, Robert R. Long, at 412.363.3303.
