moore_jeff.jpg“I frequently tell people the very same truth I learned back at Jubilee in the early ’90s,” says Jeff Moore. “However God has gifted you, whatever your vocation, whatever your skill set, you can use it all to serve Him and labor for His kingdom. God will use you as you are in Christ. All we need to be is willing and obedient.”

Before he attended his first Jubilee conference as a student at Westminster College, this idea had never occurred to Jeff. “Jubilee was formative in teaching me to have an outward focus in my faith. The thought that you could serve Christ in any profession or calling was new to me.”

The calling to which Jeff ultimately responded was to full-time ministry. He currently serves as Lead Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Aurora, Illinois, where he and his wife, Stephanie, are raising their three children. “I received a call to the ministry in the late fall of my freshmen year of college,” he says. “My participation in the CCO’s ministry certainly made me more sensitive to the Lord’s voice in my life.”

When Jeff arrived for his freshman year at Westminster, he was already a believer and was looking for some kind of fellowship. His residence hall director, CCO staff member, Keith TerHaar, invited him to participate in a discipleship group in apartment.

“That was new to me, but really great,” Jeff remembers. “Keith was the first person in my life who took the time to sit down with me and ask me about my spiritual life. He got in my face—it was awesome! I really grew in Christ, in large part, because Keith cared about me enough to hold me accountable to Bible study, prayer and fellowship.”

Because of the CCO’s ministry at Westminster, Jeff got connected to fellow students who became his best friends. “Doing life together and sharing common faith and common interests gave me a sense of belonging that wouldn’t have naturally happened without CCO’s ministry. The CCO exposed me to a new level of Christian discipleship and worldview that I hadn’t experienced until then.”

That legacy continues to be evident in Jeff’s life 15 years later, through his role as father, husband and pastor. “I share how the Lord has made a difference in my life,” Jeff says. “Through those stories of His activity, I try to connect the congregation to His story—His Holy Word—where they can hear His voice and choose to obey Him.”
