“Without the CCO, I would have continued to have a very narrow view of Christianity,” says Brittany Baines. “I have grown tremendously through witnessing my campus ministers invest in the lives of so many students. It has moved me to do the same.”
When Brittany first arrived at Robert Morris University, she sought out Christian fellowship opportunities. She connected to CCO staff worker Katherine Sikma and began attending weekly Bible studies, and she has attended the Jubilee conference every year since her freshman year.
“Jubilee opened my eyes to what it means to live out my faith in today’s society through ordinary ‘worldly’ careers,” Brittany says. “The speakers have been inspiring and challenging, to say the least.”
Brittany will graduate in 2010 with a degree in hospitality and accounting. She is grateful for the CCO’s ministry at Robert Morris, which has given her a vision for how to serve God in her studies and in her future career. She is active in her church, helping to lead the high school youth group, teach Sunday school and participate in Vacation Bible School. She also has a heart for ministry to the homeless.
“A CCO campus minister chose to invest time and love into me, which has taught me how to become a leader and reach out and do the same with others who are lost, broken, or confused about God and Christianity,” says Brittany. “My faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior defines my life, my outlook, and my relationships with others. It governs what I do and, as I have increased in intercessory prayer, my faith is making a difference in my family as well.
“By watching my campus ministers live out their faith in every area of their lives, I have been inspired to imitate their walk. I do this by taking the time to invest in people. The CCO has taught me how key relationships are to evangelism. In order to express my love and view of God to someone, they must first know me as more than a stranger. The CCO ministry has taught me to be more aware of the kingdom perspective of leading people to Christ by investing in relationships and discipleship.”
