“I was raised in the church and started going the day I was born,” says Robyn Zaborowski. “I’ve always been very active in the church I grew up in. When I started college and moved four hours away from home, I had to get used to a new church and leave the church family I’d known all my life. That was an adjustment for me and something I really struggled with for a long time. Through the CCO, I learned that my church family extends beyond the four walls of a building. My church family includes the believers I find wherever I go.”
Robyn started looking for Christian fellowship as soon as she started college at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, but it was a struggle for her to find one. “A friend from home introduced me to [CCO staff member] Rashad Clemons, and he helped to find things to get involved in at school at Allegheny Center Alliance Church. Rashad and the CCO’s ministry were there for me when I was at some really low parts of life. They helped me to keep my relationship with God in times when I was doubting my faith.”
During her years at the Art Institute, Robyn stayed connected to the CCO’s ministry, learning how to more effectively share her faith, volunteering with the Kids Club at church on Wednesday nights, and attending the CCO-sponsored Jubilee conference.
“I went to Jubilee every year I was in college which I found to be a wonderful experience every year,” Robyn remembers. “Throughout my time in college, I missed my family and closest friends and felt alone a lot. Jubilee lifted my spirits and reminded me of the things in life that matter the most. I always found that I was able to reconnect with God the weekends I was at Jubilee.”
Today, Robyn is a freelance photographer, and she is considering applying for ministry positions.
“It’s only recently that I’ve discovered God has given me the gift of counseling,” she says. “People have always come to me for advice, support, to vent and to talk, but I’ve never really thought anything of it. I have this sense when people need to talk or are hurting or need a hug. I have this almost magnetic force that draws me to someone and I just have this sense of knowing that only comes from God.
“I think the most important lesson I’ve learned over the past few years is how to share my faith. I’ve learned nothing speaks louder than God’s love. You can preach and you can teach, but if you don’t show God’s love, you’ve done nothing. So now I share my faith by doing my best to show people God’s love.”
As Robyn prepares to move back to Pittsburgh and pursue her calling, she remains grateful for Rashad Clemons and the CCO’s ministry during her college years.
“The CCO’s ministry helped to give me hope. I struggled with a lot of different issues as I developed and grew into the woman I’ve became, and in that maturing process, I was reminded of the one thing that holds true in life: God was with me through it all. No other thing in life is stronger, more supportive and more steady than God, and only in him can we find true life.
