Carter-Monique.jpg“My time as a student involved with the CCO influences what I do today because it has truly made me cherish my calling from God as a registered nurse,” says Monique Carter. “The CCO has inspired me to live my Christian faith in every area of life. I stay prayerful every day and to allow God to guide me in personal and professional situations.”

Monique first connected to the CCO’s ministry when she was a student at Kent State University and a member of the track and field team. “I met [CCO staff member] Ted Schumacher at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes meeting, and that was the beginning of my involvement with the CCO. When I first got to college, I was interested in a Christian fellowship, but I didn’t know what was available around campus. Once I joined the track team, I got information about FCA. During my junior year, FCA merged with a Bible study called Our Divine Unity, and they continue to fellowship together today.”

Besides attending FCA meetings and meeting one-on-one with Ted, Monique also attended the Jubilee conference throughout her college years. “Jubilee convinced me how important having your own personal relationship with God is, and how you need to let your faith be a part of every aspect of your life.”

Today, Monique lives near Cleveland, Ohio, where she works as a registered nurse and is currently seeking a church home. She volunteers her time in her community by sharing her medical expertise. “I participate in many fundraisers and programs that benefit premature infants and their families, and I participate along with the hospital where I work by donating unused medical supplies to underdeveloped countries,” she says.

“Working as a nurse has truly been a great platform to share my faith. I am able to share my faith with my patients and their families by giving them compassionate service and hospitality. I am able to witness to them with caring actions and thoughtful words. I have prayed with and for many families. Also I have had great conversations with families that I have worked with, and as a young Christian, their words have been very inspirational to me as well.”

Monique continues to be grateful for the foundation set for her by the CCO’s ministry during her college years.

“Without the CCO’s ministry, I don’t feel that I would have grown as much as I did in my Christian faith. I also I wouldn’t be the nurse I am today, showing compassion to all of my patients and their families, no matter what walk of life they are from. My faith has made a difference in my personal life as I stay prayerful and consult with God first when I need direction on life decisions. I try to be an example my family, helping them grow in their faith.

“My faith has helped to shape the meaning of my life and the purpose God has for me. This is why I am a supporter of the CCO’s ministry; I want to help other college students benefit from what the CCO has to offer.”
