“I decided to pursue my career as a musician because my involvement with CCO gave me the tools to explore my art in ways consonant with my faith,” says Phil Thompson, a graduate of the prestigious Oberlin College Conservatory. “I think as a composer, it really shapes the kinds of projects I’m interested in, and how I interact with the broader trends in contemporary music, which (like most of the arts) is incredibly secular. I approach my craft very differently because of my Christian belief system then I might otherwise do. There is always some aspect of my Christian beliefs informing the creative decisions I’m making.”
