This past Friday, August 3, the 28 students and five CCO staff members who spent a summer working, learning, and living in community together in Ocean City, New Jersey, celebrated their final evening together and parted ways.
The 2012 Ocean City Beach Project is now in the history books, but the seeds planted and nurtured in these young Christian leaders at the beach are getting ready to really bloom. How will God’s work in their lives, communally and individually, translate to life on campus?
Here are some brief reflections from a few OCBP 2012 alumni:
“I never could have imagined how much the Beach Project would teach me about myself. It has been a beautifully unexpected time of introspection that I praise God for.”
“I never imagined I would be a waitress. I never imagined how God would use me there. I never imagined that people would want to talk about God, but He’s showed up in all of those ways and more.”
“The Ocean City Beach Project has taught me that a religious life and a Gospel-centered life are two very different things. Jesus calls us to live a Gospel-centered life for His sake.”
“The biggest surprise from Ocean City is the strong community. I can feel the pure love of Christ here, and I want to take this community back to campus and bring back this overwhelming sense of Christ’s love.”
As they return to the 22 campuses they represent, pray that they will be salt and light to their peers. Pray that the lessons learned this summer will be multiplied as they lead others.
