CCO Campus Ministry

CCO Area Directors

exceutivepixtemplate_mitchell.jpgDenny Mitchell serves the CCO as Area Director for Eastern Pennsylvania, supervising campus staff and seeking new opportunities to reach out to students in his area.

Since graduating from Penn State University in 1970, Denny has pursued a career in college ministry. He first joined CCO staff in 1984, after graduating from Dallas Theological Seminary with a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies. “I served on staff with The Navigators for 13 years at the University of Rhode Island and West Virginia University,” and he also went on to work with InterVarsity and DiscipleMakers. He rejoined CCO staff in 1998 to serve students at his alma mater, Penn State. In 2002, he transitioned into his current Area Director position.

“I like the CCO’s philosophy of ministry,” Denny says. “I also like that we are not a cookie-cutter organization, but tailor the ministry to the needs of the campus, that we emphasize a biblical world and life view, and that we work hard at equipping our staff to do the ministry.

“During the college years most young people are making crucial decisions about their mission in life, their mate for life, and the master of their life. These decisions can have results that may bless them or curse them for years, even the rest of their lives. College ministry is so strategic.”

Denny and his wife, Nancy Joy, have raised three sons, Joshua, Matthew and Nathan, and they currently live in Macungie, near Allentown, Pennsylvania. They are members and worship at Cedar Crest Bible Fellowship Church, where the senior pastor and his wife were both students in their ministry at WVU over 25 years ago.
