John McElwain serves as Staff Director for Southwestern Pennsylvania, supervising staff who reach out to students in that area. He first came on board with the CCO in 2006 as Coordinator of Staff Support Raising, a position which is is continuing to fill. In this role, he encourages all of our staff to trust God and to be faithful to Him in their ministry of support raising, which involves both listening and training.
“I was involved as a student in ministry with several of the earliest CCO staff before there was a CCO,” John says. An ordained Presbyterian minister, John has supervised seven CCO workers over the years, in his role as a cooperative supervisor for staff ministering to students at Penn State McKeesport and Slippery Rock University.
“I believe the CCO staff are worthy of full support and all expenses reimbursed, and I believe God is able to provide,” John says. “Support-raising is profoundly spiritual for staff and for supporters. I feel at home with the CCO’s theology and philosophy of ministry.”
John and his wife, Karen, have four grown children (Beth, John, Jessica, and Joanna) and three grandchildren (Joshua, Nick and Jane). John and Karen make their home in Grove City, and John preaches when asked and visits area churches.
Everybody on staff at the CCO raises their own financial support, including the staff directors. You can support John or anybody else on our area leadership team by contributing online.
