Bob Long is Chairman Emeritus of the CCO’s Board of Directors. Bob first came on staff with the CCO as Executive Director in 1972, when the CCO was just a year old. A 1964 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Bob earned a Master of Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 1969.
“I really began to grow personally in my faith because of Christian leaders at the University of Pittsburgh ,” Bob says. After graduating from seminary, he returned to his alma mater to minister to Pitt students through Bellefield Presbyterian Church. These experiences cemented what has become a lifelong commitment to college ministry.
“I love the CCO because of our shared vision that God cares about every aspect of our lives,” Bob says. “I love that we choose to work cooperatively with churches, colleges, and other organizations to do this work and that we continue to connect college students to Christ’s body, the local church. We are committed to spreading the gospel and we pursue all of these things together, as a supportive community.”
Bob and his wife Marilyn live in Pittsburgh, and have raised three grown children, Greg, Lindsay and Elisa. Bob retired from his position as Chairman of the Board in July 2010, six months after he was unanimously elected Chairman Emeritus.
