The CCO’s outreach at Allegheny College was one of the first CCO ministries, dating back to the early 1970s. CCO staff members Sandie Starr Everhart and Mollie Little serve together to reach out to students. The CCO’s vision of Christ transforming college students is worked out through multiple means at Allegheny College: fellowship groups, Bible studies, football chapels, book discussions, hosting speakers, mentoring relationships, retreats, pig roasts and picnics, service learning opportunities, and mission trips.
Two fellowship groups meet weekly: FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) and ACO (Allegheny Christian Outreach). Several student leaders facilitate Bible studies and discussion groups, and CCO staff workers sponsor several Bible studies as well. Fellowship-wide and small-group retreats are offered for developing both relationships and faith.
Sandie advises the FCA chapter and volunteers as an Assistant Track & Field Coach, providing key connections with student athletes. The annual Fall Pig Roast for all athletes and coaches draws more than 350 people and has proven to be an excellent kick-off to the year as it provides a forum for meeting and greeting new and current students.
The annual Jubilee conference in Pittsburgh draws well over 50 Allegheny students and functions as the culmination of weeks of teaching and discussion of how we “fit and function” in the Kingdom of God. An annual mission trip to Jamaica provides an opportunity for more than two dozen students to minister to “the least of these” in a completely different culture. Several mentoring relationships established each year by CCO staff help provide encouragement, support and discipleship for students.
