CCO staff worker Pete Ware ministers to California University through a student organization known as S.T.A.N.D. The CCO founded S.T.A.N.D. in the early 1990s, and it has been thriving on campus ever since. S.T.A.N.D. is still under CCO leadership and it has now grown to about 65 students, most of whom are Christians, some who are not. A typical S.T.A.N.D. meeting has both a time of prayer and of praise and worship, followed by teaching from the Scriptures. This teaching is usually given by either one of the CCO campus ministers or a local pastor.
The two major focuses of the S.T.A.N.D. ministry are discipleship and evangelism. Every student has the opportunity to be connected to a one-on-one mentoring relationship where they’ll be encouraged and challenged to grow in their walk with Christ. There are also six or seven Bible studies occurring on campus throughout the week, where students can receive biblical teaching in a smaller setting.
The second major piece of the S.T.A.N.D. ministry is evangelism. Students who attend the Wednesday night meetings are regularly encouraged to share their faith in Christ with non-believers. God is at work at California University and we are very excited to be a part of it!
