CCO staff member Kenn Atkinson is committed to bringing God’s peace to Cumberland County, New Jersey, which is the poorest county in the state, troubled with problems like crime, violence, and broken families. One of his goals is to mobilize students and young adults to be community leaders.
“There are not many people working with this generation here, and I hope to address that need,” says Kenn. “I want to raise up leaders who understand and respond to these difficult issues, and who will choose to relocate to these neighborhoods to bring holistic change and hope.”
Kenn is networked with churches throughout the county and serves as an adjunct faculty member at Cumberland County College. This summer, three students will be working alongside Kenn in his urban neighborhood, where they will receive training in the areas of spiritual formation, community and mission.
