CCO staff worker Alaina Cronkright reaches out to students as Academic Support Adviser through a partnership with Eastern University. She supports students in the Cushing Center for Counseling and Academic Support, helping them connect their faith to their academics, with an office right on campus.
The CCO also has partnerships with two local churches that actively encourage students to connect to a local congregation and to live out their faith in all areas of their lives.
Tuesday night gatherings at the Gryphon Cafe are for fellowship and teaching, and are led by CCO staff worker, Katie Zoet. Once a month, Church of the Saviour hosts “Documentary and Discussion,” where students gather to watch a documentary on a relevant issue and talk about how it relates to them and the people around the them. Katie looks forward to being a speaker for the Grow Groups (small groups on each dorm floor) on campus and she is starting a mentoring program through Church of the Saviour.
Elliott Simko is an Eastern University alumnus, and he works with the United Presbyterian Church of Manoa to reach area college students and connect them to congregation members.
Together, Alaina, Katie and Elliott spend time with students, meeting them on campus for coffee, food, and to talk about life, attend Wednesday morning chapel services, or getting off campus for a little while. They mentor students and encourage them to attend the CCO’s annual Jubilee conference.
