The CCO is just beginning to lay roots in this highly academic private college.

CCO staff worker Elliott Simko heads up a book study on Sunday nights from 9:00-10:30pm that welcomes people of different beliefs and backgrounds to come and wrestle with whether God exists, and what consequences it has on their lives. During the fall semester of 2008, students read excerpts from Richard Dawkins’ The God Delusion, and Timothy Keller’s The Reason for God.

In addition, Haverford students are invited to participate in a handful of other events organized for college students in the area. The Big Event, coordinated by Elliott every September, is a kick-off extravaganza for the new school year, attracting students from colleges all over the area. Also, the CCO has teamed with the Amnion Pregnancy Center to speak to Haverford students about the basis for healthy relationships, and the sacredness of sex.

While this is a relatively new ministry, already there is a committed and diverse student group that is growing at a good pace. If you’d like to join the book study, come by the MCC on Sunday nights, or contact Elliott at elliottsimko@gmail.com.
