At La Salle University, CCO staff worker Suler Acosta provides spiritual direction to students, providing a listening and prayerful ear. He provides an off-campus Bible study for students where questions are welcomed, mystery embraced, and doctrine discussed. He also meets with some faculty for their spiritual direction.
The Trend is a Reformed yet catholic fellowship of young adults that seeks to provide young adults the context to experience:
In their growth towards Christ-formation, we pray that young adults will…
To that end, we provide for students Spiritual Directors, volunteers who have a passion for college students and who know the heart of God, these people meet and pray with young adults in their spiritual pilgrimage.
Our meetings and activities
Small-group Bible studies are the heart of our ministry. Students pair up and spend time with older Christians from New Life Church for fellowship, prayer, Bible study, and discussion.
Counterpoints of Faith are forums where we host open and friendly discussions with peoples from other faith traditions with the hope of commending our faith in love. These forums are held every two months.
Summer Book Study: From May through August, we go through a Christian classic in the hopes of deepening our faith and preparing students for the upcoming school year. This takes place every Sunday evening at 7:00pm at New Life Presbyterian Church (425 E. Roosevelt Boulevard, Philadelphia, PA 19120).
We hold two retreats every year (spring and late summer). Check the New Life website for more info.
We are also working in connection with Stop Modern Slavery to bring an end to human trafficking in the Philadelphia Metro Area. These meetings are held every 3rd Thursday of the month at the Old First Reformed Church (4th and Race Streets in Philadelphia).
Other service projects include: Leading worship at the Whosoever Gospel Mission, hanging on with the homeless, volunteering at a shelter for women, and vision trips to Guatemala.
