The benefit of having CCO staff on our team, in addition to their like-minded commitment to Christ and our students, is the excellent training and support they receive from the CCO. This understanding of ministry and college students not only shapes their ministry to students, but also promotes dialogue within the Student Life and Learning Team. Our CCO staff are an integral part of the Student Life and Learning Team here at Grove City College.

Crossroads at Duquesne University is a wonderful and blessed success. Led by talented CCO representatives and a strong self-sustaining leadership core, the group reaches out to serve the world in love. They are a joy to have with us on Duquesne’s campus.

Dan Hayner’s embodiment of our core values of faith, integrity, diligence, excellence and service serves as a role model for all of us. Our relationship with CCO also brings us the XD Team. They do a great job helping our students not only to become better team members and leaders, but to incorporate our mission and values into their lives. We are hoping to utilize the CCO even more in the coming years.

The mission of Geneva College is to minister and educate a diverse community of students, and our partnership with the CCO helps us to fulfill that mission. By serving in a variety of positions over our +30 year relationship, CCO staff members have impacted enumerable lives on our campus. Today, the CCO brings expertise, experience, and a ministry focus to our outdoor education program (Pisgah) that just simply would not exist were it not for our relationship with the CCO.
I would characterize our staff (Becky, Patrick, and Matt) as committed professionals seeking to be the light of Christ on our campus while they educate and minister to our students in a unique and exciting environment of God’s creation. Without our partnership with the CCO, our program simply could not function at its current pace.

Four years ago, I noticed that our campus lacked a directed, unified method of instilling leadership principles in our students. We educate our students to be the best in their industry. Consequently, they will obtain leadership roles after they graduate that will require them to deal effectively with people. They will become foremen, supervisors, assistant superintendents, office managers, site managers, project managers or business owners. Without any educational programming that concentrates on problem-solving, group dynamics, interpersonal skills, managing authority effectively, and so one, we are not equipping our students as best we can to succeed. That’s the purpose of this program and that’s the reason that the CCO is so critical to its success.

The collaboration among CCO staff and Gannon’s Campus Ministry staff has been a real blessing for our students. Rather than marking our territory and jealously guarding it, staff members trust each other, depend on each other, and back up each other. This provides a real model for our students, Catholic and Protestant, who will leave Gannon and enter environments where such ecumenical collaboration is needed. While there are other well-known Christian groups who want to minister to our students, we have grown to trust the CCO; the Kirk House directors will work with the University’s mission, not against it.

Both Sam and Kate have been stellar employees, which is not just a testimony of who they are, but of our relationship with the CCO. The CCO provides people resources—it’s not just Kate and Sam and Debbie, but other CCO staff who come in to speak and help. There’s a confidence that comes with knowing the CCO and trusting that the product that we’ll get will be good.

I use Titan Traverse about twice a year for some intensive group development experiences for my group counseling students. I’m very impressed with what Laura, Brian and Chrissy do. They know their material, they know the process, they are able to make the process understandable. They are able to respond to the needs of the group as they emerge.

Nothing brings a group of people together like being outside, breathing the fresh air, creating strategy, and executing strategy… Everyone came away [from the faculty workshop] with a new respect for each other, the job they do, and the organization they work for. My experience with Titan Traverse was very positive, so I decided to fit a session into my classes whenever possible.

We desire to provide a place where all our students will find support for their faith, not just the Catholics. I do know that the two CCO staff I have worked with have helped us to do just that. On another level, CCO’s presence expands our ministry team’s presence to individual students and often we are instrumental in the transformation of our students one at a time.
The CCO provides a level of training and supervision that enhances that work. In addition, the age range of the CCO staffers helps us to connect with the next generation. [CCO staff member] Khadija Garrison brings New Orleans hospitality to Ohio Dominican. This hospitality is the core of her primary role as a Resident Hall Minister. Of course, her faith and spiritual insight adds to our ministry team and is evident in her care for the spiritual and personal growth of our students. The CCO is an amazing organization. The strong commitment and dedication to the Lord seen throughout its structure is impressive.
