CCO Campus Ministry

CCO staff member Steve Lutz ministers to students at Penn State University through Calvary Baptist Church near State College, Pennsylvania. Steve is ordained in the Presbyterian Church of America.

I was a pastor in Philadelphia and working with college students for several years before I worked for the CCO. One of the reasons I came to work for the CCO is because we don’t just talk about partnering with the local church, we do it. It’s in our organizational DNA.

One of the CCO’s core values is “Faithfulness is pursued together.” The CCO doesn’t pretend that we can do fruitful ministry on our own; we realize that the local church possesses many God-given responsibilities and resources that we do not have. We need each other, and when we work together, that practical display of the unity Jesus prayed for in John 17 glorifies God and leads to more college students being reached than we could ever do on our own.

As a pastor, I believe strongly that the local church belongs on the front lines of ministry. CCO understands that, and gives me the flexibility to serve both my church and the organization as I work with students. I’m thankful for the resources they provide that further our ministry.”
