CCO Campus Ministry

What kinds of support systems are available to first-year staff who are starting out?

The CCO is small enough that most of our staff know each other. The biggest reason that our staff cite for joining and remaining on staff with the CCO is the community of people they find here. We have an extensive training program, and supervisors who are readily available.

Are there opportunities for CCO staff to further their education?

Apart from the training that all staff receive, CCO staff members have the option of pursuing a graduate degree during their time with the CCO, either through a cooperative program with Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary or Geneva College. Both programs are available to CCO staff at about one third of the usual cost.

I’m not familiar with support-raising. How do your staff go about raising support and what help is provided for them?

Our staff are expected to raise about half of their total salary; the church, school or community board will take care of the rest. Funds contributed to the CCO designated for a specific staff person are used exclusively for their salary.

The CCO has a team of support-raising specialists whose exclusive responsibility is to train staff and assist them in raising support. In addition, our staff are able to draw on the experiential wisdom of their colleagues, as everyone in the CCO raises money towards their salary.

Is it possible to live comfortably on a support-raised salary?

CCO salaries are comparable to other entry-level salaries in the job market. Salaries are flexible and can be adjusted to meet an individual’s need. Salaries are adjusted based on level of education, experience, family needs and standard of living. Many of our staff pay off college loans, own homes, raise families and live comfortably.

What insurance coverage and benefits are provided for CCO staff?

The CCO provides excellent health coverage, which includes medical/prescription, vision and dental insurance. We also offer a retirement savings/401K plan with a matching program.

What do people do after they work for the CCO?

While the CCO prepares people for future work in ministry, most of our staff go on to other careers. Our staff alumni include college professors, business owners, researchers, managers, financial advisers, organizational development consultants, and even a video game designer. Many of them have told us how their time with the CCO prepared them for the work they are doing now, even in unrelated fields.

I’d still like more information.
