CCO Campus Ministry

CCO staff, 1974-
86 (Allegheny College, Chatham University, Director of Training)

I think of the CCO’s influence on my life almost every day. It has shaped how I approach nearly everything I do. The CCO’s commitment to the institutional church over-rode my own desire to flee from it. God has blessed that. Major things are happening in terms of people coming to grips with their own faith, being able to reach out. It affects my teaching mostly in the way I’m frustrated—would like to be myself more with these fourth graders who I really love. It keeps me trying to find ways to express who I am and who the lord of my life is in ways that are acceptable even in a public school.

I worked for a museum for a while, and that work involved working with teachers all over town to get them to use the museum for field trips. I’m now getting together with these teachers to talk about how to teach out of our faith. I couldn’t do this the same way without my time on staff and the influence of the CCO way back when I was a student. It taught me that you can’t keep your faith separate from the rest of your life.
